Red Wigglers: Eisenia Andrei
Red wigglers (eisenia andrei) are known to be one of the easiest composting worms to care for, so they are great for beginners! They also tend to break down and consume organic material faster than other composting worms. Red wigglers will eat roughly ½ of their body weight in food each day. Red wigglers are easy to care for (typically just a quick feeding and moisture check once a week) and they survive in a wide range of temperatures (between 65-85 degrees Fahrenheit). They also tolerate a wider range of moisture and soil pH than other worms. Eisenia Andrei are a less well-known species of red wiggler, but are actually becoming my absolute favorite composting worm to work with! They out-compete Eisenia Fetida in speed of breaking down materials AND reproduction!
